I was reading Leaping Poetry by Robert Bly, and I came across a poem/poet I first disocvered in grad. school. The poem haunts me for months after each time I read it.TWO YEARS LATER
The hollow eyes of shock remain
Electric sockets burnt out in the
skull.
The beauty of men never disappears
But drives a blue car through the
stars.

I love John Wieners' work--I just reread his second book, Ace of Pentacles, last night. No poet has tapped into agony and despair more beautifully than he. I wish I'd met him before he died.
